About the apps:
“After teaching for over a decade, I felt like a significant amount of (often expensive) lesson time was spent simply learning how to identify music notes and rhythms.
Sometimes, it could take years before students moved beyond the fundamentals into more fulfilling aspects of music education.
When I began developing the apps in 2012, the idea was still quite new, but the touch-based interface seemed perfect for a more gamified, engaging approach.
The first app I created was Rhythm Cat, which was followed by four more to complete the series: Treble Cat, Bass Cat, Rhythm Cat 2, and Ear Cat.
I had no idea they would be so well received— with now over ten million downloads.
Music educators and users from around the world have reached out to say how helpful and fun they’ve found the apps. Over the years, they’ve also provided invaluable feedback that’s helped to guide ongoing improvements.
From the beginning, I’ve tried to stay true to a few core principles.
I wanted the apps to be as universal as possible, using almost no text. If I couldn’t explain something visually, I ‘d go back to the drawing board. I also wanted the apps to be useful for all instruments. (not just piano or guitar etc,)
And finally, the apps, including the free versions, have never displayed ads and never will. I’ve always believed they have no place in an educational context.
Hope you enjoy them!”
